Human work, without AI
I believe the human touch is essential.
Although significant progress has been made in generative AI and large language models, machine translation (MT) will always require a human to verify nuances, meet quality standards and ensure confidentiality.
While I never use machine translation tools in my projects, I do use translation memories and specialised tools to ensure consistency.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
I sincerely believe that to excel in what you do, you need to commit to CPD and keep up to date with both how languages evolve and the technologies available in the translation market.
The ITI recommends a minimum of 30 hours of CPD/year, but I always exceed this, regularly participating in translation conferences, webinars and mentoring newcomers to the profession (I have been mentoring for the ITI since 2016). In February 2024, I presented a talk on Mentoring at the 4th Africa International Translation Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, which I hope will have encouraged established translators in Africa to volunteer their time mentoring newcomers to the profession.
I also won the ITI Mentor of the Year Award in 2020.

Rates
My rates vary depending on subject area, volume, regularity and deadline. Translation is usually charged per word, whereas editing, revision and proofreading are charged by the hour. I accept payment in Euro, Sterling and US dollars.
Languages
I translate from Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and French into both British and American English. I also handle translations from English into most European languages and vice versa.
Professional Certifications
I am a qualified member and certified translator of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), and I have been awarded a Fellowship in recognition of my experience and contributions to the field. Additionally, I hold ISO 17100:2015 certification.
Contributions to the Community
I am an active member of several professional networks, including the ITI Medical & Pharmaceutical Network and the Mediterranean Editors and Translators Association. Additionally, I have served on the Board of Directors of the ITI.
