About me
I am Francesca Matteoda. My parents were Italian; I was born and raised in the heart of London, UK, meaning that I grew up in a bilingual environment, fluent in both Italian and English right from the start.
My father, a passionate translator and interpeter, ran a translation agency for over 40 years. Watching him work tirelessly, I developed a deep appreciation for the art and precision of translation from a young age.
My father often shared his love for linguistic nuances and cultural subtleties with me. He became my mentor, teaching me the ropes and inspiring my own journey into the world of translation. His dedication and expertise left an indelible mark on me, shaping my career path. My elder brother, now retired, also followed in his footsteps.
I hold a first-class BA (Hons) in Modern Languages (French and Italian) from the University of Westminster (1996), with distinction in spoken French, and in 1998, I was awarded a Master’s degree in Technical and Specialised Translation in French, Italian, Portuguese and English by the same university.
With my father’s legacy as a guiding light, I strive to carry forward his tradition of excellence and passion in every translation project I undertake.
My first position as an in-house translator was at an agency specialising in medical and pharmaceutical translations, where I quickly learned the necessary terminology for these fields and discovered my passion for all things medical.
I also learnt Spanish, which has since become one of my working languages In January 2000, I set up my translation business, and in 2001, I moved from London to Madrid, where I have continued offering top-notch translation, revision and editing services to private individuals, large pharmaceutical companies, and other translation agencies.
I handle pharmaceutical texts in various languages and directions, thanks to the extensive database of freelance translators I have built over the years. All the translators are specialised in the medical field, and I have an excellent relationship with them.
